Early 17th century oak side table
An English oak side table. Moulded front frieze with applied carved ' ears' with punchwork decoration, simple hand cut shaped sides. Gunbarrel turned legs typical of the late Elizabethan period. Pegged construction throughout. The two side stretchers are later 19th century stabilising additions; given the age of the table they have probably helped it survive its almost 400 years. Despite its great age the table is strong, sturdy and set for another few hundred years of service. Rich chocolate brown patination, the top slightly paler.
