A large watercolour painting by British watercolourist James Stephen Gresley 1829 - 1908 signed and dated button left . Painted in 1884 this extensive landscape has ruins in the centre ground with cattle wadding in the river and a fisherman on the bank. A peaceful serene composition with a light touch and ease of style. Gresley mainly painted in Derbyshire and Yorkshire he was the first in a family line of artists, A book written by Elizabeth Bailey in 2013, the Great Gresley: A Derbyshire Painting Dynasty. The gilt and fine plasterwork frame is original.
