An oil on panel by John Varley II 1850-1933, English artist who painted mainly in Europe and North Africa. This one in Spain. Housed in possibly its original frame with later hand painted over decoration in an olive green. Original watergilt slip. Signed and dated bottom left and titled on verso. Super bold spontaneous brush work. Use of light and shadow to great affect. Paining by this artist regularly sold at Christie's European paintings auctions.
